The annual KGU Shakespeare Production held its student audition for
its 2009 production on June 6th, 2009 in Bennett Hall at Mutsuura
Campus. The KGU Shakespeare Production has staged a play by
Shakespeare in English every year since 1948, the only university
English stage production of its kind in Japan with such a long tradition.

恒例のシェイクスピア英語劇2009年度オーディションが6月6日金沢八景キャンパス、
ベンネットホールにて行われました。この日本でもただ一つのシェイクスピア英語劇は
1948年以来毎年開催され、関東学院の伝統となっています。

Tensions ran high as students waited nervously for their turn to recite
a passage from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night in English. When it came
their turn, each student bounded on stage and performed confidently.
Many students had memorized their part.

待ち時間に緊張を隠せない学生達。ところが、ステージに上がり決められたパートを
演じ始めると一転自信にあふれたパフォーマンスを見せ、その上既に暗唱できる
学生も多かったのには参加者の意気込みを感じました。

KGU Shakespeare Director Mr. Senuma, Assistant Director Mr.
Tanaka, Shakespeare Committee Chairman Prof. Yoko Fukuen, and
Shakespeare Committee member Prof. Alan Botsford selected this
year’s actors and actresses from students belonging to the
Shakespeare Club. Students were auditioning for roles in the
Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, a comedy about mistaken identities.
Students who were trying out were from various KGU departments,
including Dept. of English, Dept. of Economics, Dept. of Engineering etc.

全員の演技の後、監督、助監督、英語劇実行委員会のメンバーの厳正なる審査の上、
今年の英語劇の出演者が決定されました。今年は数あるシェイクスピア劇の中でも、
アイデンティティの混同をテーマにした喜劇『Twelfth Night（十二夜）』を上演いたします。
出演者、およびスタッフは関東学院の各学部から参加しています。

We warmly encourage students interested in playacting, Elizabethan
theater, or English language study to consider joining the KGU
Shakespeare Club activity during your four years at Kanto Gakuin
University. It will be an unforgettable experience.
