シアトルで開催された、２０１４年度AWP ( Association of Writers and Writing Programs )にパネリストとして参加しました。AWPは文学の会議として北米最大の規模を誇り、毎年５００以上の発表、２０００人の発表者が集います。
ワシントン州立コンベンションセンターとシェラトンホテルにて２月の２６日から３月１日まで行われ、 ”Home and Not Home : Poetics of / in a Changing Japan” と題したテーマに沿って、日本との関係が深いアメリカ詩人のシド・コーマンや、与謝野晶子などの日本の詩人、そしてアメリカを代表する詩人ウォルト・ホイットマンについての発表が行われました。

How do poets of/in Japan see through dangerous nostalgias and cliché and bear witness to new stories? How can poets help clear a space for learning what it means to be at home and not at home in a story that– in an accelerating, globalizing world–indeed is forever changing? Four Japan-based writers discuss the contributions of (１) ２０th-century Japanese women poets; (２) post-war modern Japanese poets; (３) expatriate poets in Japan; (４) and contemporary Japanese poets writing in English.
