For three days, August 2 – 4, 2022, we carried out the 5th KGU English Camp in Shizuoka Prefecture. It was joined by 27 1st- and 2nd-year students of the English Department along with four native-speaking teachers, which made it the largest Camp in our history.

Students and teachers enjoyed the usual English Camp events, such as…

【GAME NIGHT!】

It included a Quiz Game…

…a very lively Gesture Game…
　　　
…and a Question-and-Answer Guessing Game.

After the official games, students could continue playing by themselves, as long as they kept the English-only rule of English Camp. The Native teachers were always watching them.

【SMALL-GROUP LESSONS!】

The students spent most of the time in small groups, practicing speaking and listening in English with the native teachers.

In every class, students could meet different classmates and teachers.

【GROUP DRAMA CONTEST!】

Again this year, the students were challenged to make up original stories in English that use familiar characters. For example, “Doraemon”…

Everyone must memorize a long English speech and deliver it in front of the class! They must express their feeling with body language and voice control.

It was a fantastic three days of English!
For the second year, we carried out the English Camp during the Coronavirus pandemic. We faced many challenges, but students cooperated with teachers by wearing masks and using plastic panels during meal times. Also, each person stayed in a private room.
Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we could have an enjoyable time using English only for three days, with nobody falling ill in the days following the Camp.
